Members need to sign in to book for any Forum UK event
The Forum UK programme is our most important platform for promoting women’s leadership and for enriching each other’s lives by sharing knowledge, ideas and intellectual capital. Our programme is the hub of all our activity and the key to providing and maintaining our sense of community.
The programme incorporates the core categories: breakfasts; behind the scenes tours; briefings; dine-arounds; special interest groups and the annual events: AGM; Jean Denton lecture; Summer Cocktail party; Christmas breakfast. In addition we look to promote the international agenda and benefits of membership of IWF through participation in the IWF programme. We hope our Forum UK 2007/8 programme will encourage networking, growth and the development of Forum for the future.
| Visit to the Thames Barrier | 11.30am |
| Garden Drinks Party for IWF Fellows | 6.30pm |
trip £ 50
The Thames Barrier is one of the largest moveable flood barriers in the world. It spans 520 metres across the River Thames near Woolwich and protects 125 square kilometres of Central London from flooding from tidal surges. It is an incredibly impressive work of engineering and since it became operational in 1984 it has been raised over 64 times as a precaution against flooding. It is managed by the Environment Agency.
We will meet at 11.15am at Westminster Pier to travel by boat (11.30am sailing) to the Thames Barrier. On arrival we will have a buffet lunch, followed by a private technical tour out on the Barrier and q&a session in the auditorium. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and trousers/jeans as we will be climbing metal and concrete steps.
This special trip for Forum UK members and IWF Fellows has been organised by Forum UK member, Lise Taylor, who is Technical Director at Black & Veatch.
Cost include transport by boat on the River to the Barrier, lunch and tour and pre-booked taxis back into town.
